Light – Motion: Freeze and Blur

This week the focus was to freeze and blur motion, and I had so much fun experimenting with cards, flour, matches, and a computer screen. The most surprising thing to me was how extreme I had to go by taking the shutter speed way down to three seconds or bringing it up to 1/1000 of a second. I loved seeing how it worked with the kind of lighting I had, and the best pictures I got either had great lighting or terrible lighting. The most difficult thing I came across was blurring images because it was hard to know if and what to focus on, and sometimes it was challenging to get one object in focus while everything is moving around.

Photobook Design

Photobook Design 1

I used photos that I have taken in the past of people who I am close to. For my design I wanted the style to look clean, simple, and classy, so I chose a red color scheme to bring out the pinks. I chose a font that looked fancy and that complimented the message I want to get across. I decided to make the white boxes be an element that I would repeat throughout the pages to ultimately bring everything together.

Hi there! My name is Ronnie Harris and I’m from Flagstaff, Arizona. I come from a family of 10, with five brothers and two sisters, and they are all my best friends. I met my cute husband while attending school here at BYU-I and we were married just over a year ago in the Mesa, AZ temple. I love making videos, being outdoors, dancing, and eating mac n cheese.

I’ve always been into videography but I am just barely getting into photography. I’ve spent a little time in Photoshop and I’ve practiced taking pictures on my family and some of the outdoors, but that’s the extent of it. Taking the Visual Media class was extremely helpful in introducing me to the basics and so I’m extremely excited to learn more!

This is a photo I took a couple weeks ago of my beautiful sister, Tess. It was taken just outside of my home in Flagstaff.

Project 9 Portfolio

  • Portfolio (Scribd.com):
  • Project Corrections / Time spent: I spent 5 hours making corrections. Brochure- I expanded the photo of the girl in the picture so that her elbows are touching the edge of the page because previously they were cut off. Montage- I fixed a grammar error by putting a comma after the word ‘relationships.’ Imaging- I fixed the opacity of the box behind the text by bringing it up because there wasn’t enough contrast. I also brought all of the words closer together. Web design- I pulled the white background box up towards the logo so that there wasn’t a ton of space in between the text and the logo. Event ad- I aligned the title of the event to be in the middle and brought the rest of the text in so that it wasn’t close to the edge of the page. Flier- I lightened the gray background so that there was more contrast with the black letters and I fixed the word ‘leadership’ so that it wasn’t slanted. Business card- I changed the size of the logo and positioned it to be on the top left to give it more creativity. I switched the color from purple to blue and made the text white. I made all of these corrections because I was advised to when all of my projects were graded.

Video Showcase

  1. Description: A two-sided offset style brochure.
  2. Process (Programs, Tools, Skills): I set up my InDesign document with ruler guides for me to follow so that at the end when I went to fold it, the colors were on the appropriate sides and everything lined up. I then chose the headings/topics I wanted to focus on and then chose images for that. For every image except for the bubblegum background one on the back, I put them into Photoshop and used the quick selection tool to cut out the only part of the image that I wanted. I then used the refine mask to smooth and feather the object in the image to make it look as real as possible. I inserted that into InDesign by placing them in, and adjusted the sizes. I wrote out my text and then did text wrap so that I could creatively position my images and have the text go around it, and then put a white box around each heading. I also created my bubble gum machine logo with the pen tool and inserted that in my brochure.
  3. Message: Inform my audience about a fun bubblegum company in San Francisco that sells an assortment of bubblegum products.
  4. Audience: Young girls ages 3-14.
  5. Top Thing Learned: How to cut out images in Photoshop and insert them into InDesign.

Project 7 Web Page

P7RonnieHarrisScreenshot

  1. Description: A webpage designed to showcase a logo that I created.
  2. Process (Programs, Tools, Skills): Programs I used: TextWrangler and Photoshop. I began by creating a webpage using TextWrangler and I was amazed at what I could do with just this simple program. I always knew if I was on the right track because I used and HTML validator to check and see if there were any errors. I started with an HTML document where I inserted my image and then attached a pre-made CSS document to it so that I could change fonts, colors, and much  more. I went into Photoshop and used the eyedropper tool to find the exact colors I needed for my webpage so that all the colors would go together. I changed all my fonts to be sans-serif and made the headings of the page dark green. I used padding around the title of my webpage and around the logo so that nothing would be too close to each other. I also put a div on top of the background color to give some contrast between the logo and my explanations.
  3. Message: This film company offers fun and creative films.
  4. Audience: Young adults both male and female (ages 18-25)
  5. Top Thing Learned: How to change the background to be an image rather than just a color.
  6. Color scheme and color hex(s): Monochromatic: Brick #994c3f
  7. Title Font Families & Category: Sans-serif: Geneva, Luna, sans-serif
  8. Copy Font Families & Category: Sans-serif: Geneva, Luna, sans-serif
  9. Changes made to the CSS: I changed the font families, text colors, background image, and the color behind heading 1 (Ronnie Harris Films logo).
  10. Word Count: 307

  1. Description: A letterhead with a matching business card using a personally created logo for my business.
  2. Process (Programs, Tools, Skills): I began the process in Adobe Illustrator and created a new logo for the film business. I used contrasting thickness in the letters to create variety but stuck with the same font to create repetition. I made sure to make my logo the largest so that it would stand out above everything else, followed by my name and then my information below. I then did the back of the business card and put marks on the sides of the card to exemplify the focus on a camera. I saved this document and placed it into an InDesign document. I then created a letter head that was similar to my business card so that it would create a familiar feel. I drew lines across the page so that it would create some more repetition to match the “H” in my logo. I then copied the logo and brought it down to the bottom of the page to create a watermark and turned the opacity down to 4%.
  3. Message: This logo is meant to present a creative and professional business.
  4. Audience: Young adults (those who are getting married, young parents who are having kids, etc.)
  5. Top Thing Learned: How to make Adobe Illustrator and InDesign go hand-in-hand with each other.
  6. Color scheme and color names: Monochromatic: Indigo
  7. Title Font Name & Category: Sans Serif- Myriad Pro
  8. Copy Font Name & Category: Oldstyle- Book Antiqua

Project 5 Logos

RonnieHarrisP5Logos

  1. Description: Logos for a business.
  2. Process (Programs, Tools, Skills): I started out by sketching out three different logos for Ronnie Harris Films and then created them in Adobe Illustrator. I then chose the logo that had the most votes from a number of people. I typed out the text I needed, chose specific fonts to match the feel of the logo, and contrasted the thickness of different words. I wanted RHF to stand out above anything else and so I made those letters larger and thicker. I connected the letters H and F with an arrow and lined it up with the indent in the letter R. After that I copied the logo twice and created one in greyscale and the other one with white text and a colored background.
  3. Message: Ronnie Harris Films is business that creates quality, modern, and creative films.
  4. Audience: This is a standard logo that can reach out to anyone who needs a videographer for an event.
  5. Top Thing Learned: How to create different shapes
  6. Color Scheme and Color Names: Complementary- Blue and Orange
  7. Title / Body Font Names & Categories: Sans Serif- Shree Devanagari 714
